For many over-the-range microwave ovens, the blower system can be set up to recirculate the air back into the kitchen or to vent the air through the wall or roof. This requires removing the damper assembly, unthreading the screws securing the blower motor, and rotating the blower motor ports in the appropriate direction. When the ports face towards the front of the appliance, the air will be recirculated into the kitchen. Positioning the ports to face straight up will provide roof venting, while wall venting will require the ports to face the rear of the appliance.
